About the Journal

GENERAL INFORMATION

Cuadernos de Arte e Iconografía (CAI) is a periodical published by the publishing house Fundación Universitaria Española (CIF: G-28433670), a foundation registered in the Register of Foundations on 24 March 1949. It has been publishing since 1988 and after a period in which its publication was interrupted, it plans to resume its activity in the year 2025, starting a new era in which it will once again be published uninterruptedly, with a fixed annual periodicity.

Subject to the relevant scientific rigour, the journal uses the blind peer review system, in which specialised external personnel are responsible for evaluating the papers submitted.

Its rules can be consulted in the section ‘Submission and structure of originals’, in the ‘Submissions’ section. Compliance with these requirements facilitates indexing in the main international databases, guaranteeing greater dissemination of the articles published and, therefore, of their authors and centres of work.

CAI is indexed in Periodicals Index Online, DIALNET and MIAR, evaluated in CARHUS Plus+ 2018 and available with an Open Access policy in Dulcinea. The journal is published both in print (ISSN: 0214-2821) and electronically (e-ISSN: 2660-6542). Each paper is identified with a DOI (Digital Object Identifier System).

SUBJECT MATTER, SCOPE AND POLICY

Cuadernos de Arte e Iconografía (CAI) was created by the Seminario de Arte e Iconografía ‘Marqués de Lozoya’ of the Fundación Universitaria Española with the aim of offering a space for research on art and iconography in the Hispanic world in its broadest sense, with an international scope. It is aimed at a specialised public and preferably publishes research results on aspects such as art history, heritage, urban planning, criticism, iconography, art theory and aesthetics, written in any of the languages commonly accepted for scientific publications.

CAI is published annually and has two types of publications: monographic studies and miscellaneous. The Editorial Board is responsible for assigning manuscripts to the most relevant section.

CONTRIBUTIONS

They must be submitted through the OJS tool, available in the section ‘Make a new submission’ in the ‘Submissions’ section. To do so, authors must first register in the OJS platform. In the case of multi-authored works, all authors must register in the OJS platform, although only one author will be responsible for the correspondence. No author may submit or have under review two papers simultaneously.

Authors may submit papers for review without a pre-determined date, although, for entry purposes, they will be considered as received according to the OJS assignment. When specific calls for papers are made, they will appear in the ‘Announcements’ section.

The Editorial Board will take the following criteria into account when assessing and deciding on the acceptance or rejection of papers:

  • Relevance and significance of the contribution.
  • Methodological quality and consequent scientific validity.
  • Clarity and structure.
  • Justified bibliography.
  • Co-authorship and degree of internationalisation of the proposal and the team.
  • Quality of the writing of the work.

For more information on this process, please consult the 'Protocol for reception, evaluation and communications' of the Marqués de Lozoya Seminar of the Spanish University Foundation, available in the ‘Submissions’ section.
