Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the CAI requirements, specified in the present section.
  • The text submitted doesn't contain the author's identification to ensure a blind peer review.
  • The bibliographic citation responds to uniform criteria. Without inconsistencies or alterations to the established regulations.

Author Guidelines

Papers must be original and contain the final results of research, and must not have been published in any medium or be in the process of being published. It is the authors' responsibility to comply with this rule. Contributions can be:

- Articles: between 5,000 and 7,000 words of text, including title, abstracts, descriptors, tables and references.
- Varia: between 3,000 and 4,000 words.
- Book reviews, exhibition reports and reviews of congresses or similar: between 2,000 and 3,000 words.
- Monographs: a line of publication for longer works, outside the CAI journal, but also dependent on the seminar.

PRESENTATION AND STRUCTURE OF ORIGINAL PAPERS

The form of submission will be through the OJS tool, and only papers received by this means will be accepted. To do so, you must first register.

The file to be sent must be in editable format. The layout of the margins of the document will be that which, by default, appears in the configuration of a Word document in Normal mode: 2.5 cm in the top and bottom margins; 3 cm in the right and left margins.

Times New Roman font size 12 should be used for normal text, size 11 for textual quotations of more than three lines and size 10 for footnotes. The text must be properly justified, including footnotes.

The file submitted for evaluation will not include authorship to ensure blind peer review. The author identification should also be removed from the file properties (see File option in Word). This can be done from the main menu of the Microsoft application: File > Save As > Tools (or Options on Mac) > Security > Remove personal information from file properties on save > Save.

The file will contain:

1. Title, should be centred and headed, in small caps and small caps, in Times New Roman font size 14 and without inverted commas. Titles with a maximum of 80 characters including spaces are accepted. Titles are not only the responsibility of the authors but also of the editors. Therefore, if they do not correctly reflect the sense of the work, they may be modified.

2. Abstract in Spanish of a maximum of 220 words, concisely describing the objectives of the research, the methodology used, the most important results and main conclusions, with the following structure: justification of the subject, objectives, methodology of the study, results and conclusions. It should be written in an impersonal way: ‘This work analyses...’.

3. Abstract in English of a maximum of 220 words. For its translation, as well as for the title and keywords, the use of automatic translators is not allowed.

4. Keywords in Spanish (a maximum of 5) and another maximum of 5 terms for the English version.

5. Main text of the paper. Authors are encouraged to keep in mind the following structure, with freedom in the formulation of their work:
a) Introduction and state of the question: rationale and purpose of the study, as well as a review of the most significant literature on the subject at national and international level.
b) Material and methods: a description of the development of the research, presenting the analysis used, its reasons and possible limitations.
c) Analysis and results: presentation of the most relevant results of the research.
d) Discussion and conclusions: summary of the findings, relating the observations with other studies of interest, pointing out contributions without reiterating information. It is recommended to relate deductions to future research.

6. Bibliography. After the heading indicating this section, the bibliographical references will appear in order, following the Rules for references indicated below.

During submission to the OJS platform, you will be asked for the bibliography of your article in the box that the system calls ‘Citations’: simply copy the list of your manuscript into Word and make these small modifications: separate each reference with a blank line, make each reference occupy one line, and remove italics or other styles (which are lost when pasting the text). In this box, each reference should have the author's name and surname, even if it is repeated (remove the long dash). Leave the list of references, without the possible classifications you may have made in the manuscript (for example, having differentiated between primary and secondary sources).

RULES FOR REFERENCES

Citation references should appear as footnotes with the corresponding call to note in the body of the text following the scheme Surname, year, page(s). I.e.: Arias Martínez, 2009, pp. 24-35. When several footnotes are indicated in the same footnote, they should be separated by dots if the author is not the same. If the author is the same, they should be separated by a semicolon.

The bibliography should be listed first alphabetically and then chronologically, in addition to following the indications below:

Periodical publications

- Journal article: Surname in small caps and small caps, author's full name (Year of publication): ‘Title of the article’, Title of the journal in italics, volume of the journal (number of the journal), pages covered by the article. DOI or URL of the resource. [Date of consultation with format DD-MM-YYYYY].

Books and book chapters

- Full books: Surname in small caps and small caps, full author's name (Year of publication). Title of the book in italics, place, publisher.

- Book chapter: Surname in small caps, full author's name (Year of publication). ‘Title of the chapter’ in Title of the book in italics, place, publisher (pages covered by the chapter).

- Doctoral and master's theses: Surname in small caps and small caps, author's name (Year of publication). Title of the academic work in italics [Doctoral thesis, University where it was read]. Name of the repository or database where it is hosted, if any. URL of the resource.

It is prescriptive that all citations with a DOI (Digital Object Identifier System) are reflected (these can be obtained at https://search.crossref.org/). All journals and books that do not have a DOI must appear with their link (in their online version, if they have one, shortened).

All submitted web addresses must be shortened in the manuscript using https://bitly.com/, with the exception of the DOI, which must be in the format indicated.

CAI has a bibliographic collection. In this case, in order to maintain scientific coherence with the editorial line, a review of this literature is recommended. However, the saturation of citations of the authors and of this journal should be limited and carefully controlled. National and international journals indexed in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR), Scopus, REDIB, Dialnet Metrics, ERIH and FECYT are recommended.

It is essential that reference citations respond to uniform and constant criteria. This is a key aspect in a scientific journal. Inconsistencies or alterations to the established standards are not accepted.

Further indications

The headings of the sections into which the article is organised should be in the same font size, in small caps and aligned to the right-hand margin of the page.

The headings in the body of the article should be numbered in Arabic numerals. They should not be in full capital letters, underlined or bold. The numbering should be a maximum of three levels: 1. / 1.1. / 1.1.1.1. At the end of each numbered heading there should be a line break.

No text should be underlined. Also, with the exception of acronyms, the full capital letters should not be used. Foreign words and titles of books and articles should be enclosed in inverted commas (the inverted commas used in the Spanish version are typographical (’ “), while in the English version, English inverted commas (” ’) should be used. To facilitate this operation, it is recommended that you use the processor's search/replace function. In general, the use of quotation marks is preferable to italics (with some exceptions, such as the indication of titles of works of art or similar).

Figures (photographs, tables or other images) should contribute to the text. They must be of sufficient quality and must be submitted in such a way that they are not excessively compressed, while maintaining the requirements for printed and digital publication.

Only universally accepted abbreviations should be used. When a term frequently used in the text is to be shortened, the corresponding abbreviation, in brackets, must accompany the full name the first time it appears.

We indicate that each author will receive a physical copy, in addition to the digital version to facilitate its dissemination.

PROTOCOL FOR RECEPTION, EVALUATION AND COMMUNICATIONS

The Marqués de Lozoya Seminar of the Fundación Universitaria Española will always acknowledge receipt in writing of the papers correctly submitted by the authors and will inform by e-mail and on the OJS platform of the process of estimation/rejection, acceptance/rejection, as well as, in the case of acceptance, of the editing process.

In the event that the authors send the submission only by e-mail, they will be reminded that for effective submission and evaluation they must register on the OJS platform and send the submission in the corresponding section.

- In the case of a multi-authored paper, all authors must register on the OJS platform, although only one author may be the recipient of the correspondence. The transmission of information to the other authors is the responsibility of the author.

- No author may submit or have under review two papers simultaneously.

Once each paper has been correctly received, the authors will receive notification in their e-mail address.

The Editorial Board will reject manuscripts with formal deficiencies or whose content does not correspond to the thematic focus of the journal. No further correspondence will be entered into with the authors of rejected articles. If the formal deficiencies are superficial, they will be returned to the author for correction before the start of the evaluation process.

Once the manuscript has been evaluated by the Editorial Board and examined to ensure originality using the iThenticate anti-plagiarism tool, the scientific evaluation period will be a maximum of 90 days. Manuscripts will be scientifically evaluated, anonymously, by a minimum of two experts in the field. In case of clear disparity, the manuscript may be submitted for further review, which will be subject to a new 90-day deadline.

The Editorial Board, in accordance with the confidential reports of external reviewers, will decide on the acceptance/rejection of papers for publication, as well as the possible modifications recommended by the reviewers. Authors will be sent the editorial decision, which will state the acceptance or rejection of the original submitted, the reasons for this decision and, if any, the modifications suggested by the reviewers anonymously so that they can make the appropriate improvements or replicas. The incorporation of modifications by the author must be made within a maximum period of 15 days.

Authors will receive the proofs for proofreading. In the proofreading phase, authors may only make minor corrections to the content of the original manuscript that has already been evaluated, subject to acceptance of these corrections by the Editorial Board.

FEE EXEMPTION

CAI is an ‘open access’ scientific journal that will offer its materials entirely online in open access to the scientific community. It does not establish any economic fee for authors during the editorial process for the publication of articles, scientific review or layout of the articles.

PROMOTION AND DISSEMINATION OF THE ARTICLE

We ask authors to commit themselves to participate in the maximum dissemination of their manuscript once published, as well as of the journal. CAI encourages active collaboration in promoting the dissemination of the journal as an essential task to this end.
