Europa y la utopía: 1516-1667
Abstract
Utopia, as a literary genre, but also as an ethical and social principle, has been present in Europe, at least since Tomas Moro wrote his famous book in 1516. This is the beginning of this essay, which reviews various utopian manifestations (Bacon,
Campanella, Andreae, Winstanley) until ending, in 1667, with the Lost Paradise of
John Milton. I try in this way to relate these utopian thoughts with the historical
conjuncture in which they occurred, to finish elaborating a conclusion on the ambivalences inherent to utopia as well as the state of the utopian thhought in our most immediate present.
