The translation of Carmen Gallardo de Mesa: Polysystem and Norm Through Republican Exile
Abstract
Carmen Gallardo de Mesa was one of the female translators who worked during the Silver Age of Spanish literature, and who migrated to Latin America during the Civil War. This project aims to establish whether there was a change in her work due to exile and to the re-location of her translation in the Spanish literary polysystem. For this reason, we have analysed four of her translated works, published before and during the exile: Cavour (1930), A Winter in Majorca (1934), The Patriot (1939) and The Rains Came (1942).
