Building on comparative approaches to Empresas y tribulaciones de Maqroll el Gaviero (A. Mutis, 1986-1993), this essay addresses lingering gaps in the study of the
machinery featured in «Cocora» (1981, later included in La Nieve del Almirante, 1986). Through a transmedial analysis, it explores the connections between the contraption in «Cocora» and Marcel Duchamp’s Le Grand Verre (1915-1923), with a particular focus on how each medium leverages its distinct expressive resources to craft a unique interpretation of the «bachelor machine». In doing so, it underscores the ability of literary and visual art to engage in meaningful dialogue around themes such as absurdity, futility, and the ineffable.
